It might have been Carl Frampton who phrased it best.
I know the Irishman was deeply-moved by reading my book, Damage: The Untold Story of Brain Trauma in Boxing, to the point where I believe – rightly or wrongly – it played a significant part in his decision to retire.
But I’ve also heard Frampton say, in his role for TNT Sport and now with DAZN, that the more you watch boxing, the more you get desensitised to it.
The further Damage is in my own rear-view mirror, the less I think about CTE and the long-term effects in any depth.
There is, of course, probably a good subconscious reason for that and I agree with Frampton.
Don’t get me wrong, it never leaves. It lurks. But the lid is on.
Last night, however, at the Bournemouth International Centre, the lid very much came off.
